What Are Angels?
The word "angel" comes from the Greek word "angelos,"
which means "messenger."
Angels are a powerful force in Christianity, and they have been part of the faith since its earliest days. Angels are ministering spirits aiding in salvation (Hebrews 1:14). They are intelligent (1 Peter 1:12)but not omniscient (Matthew 24:36). They guide (Acts 12:5-10), encourage (Acts 27:23-24), sometimes bring answers to prayers (Acts10:3), and care for Christians after death (Luke 16:22).
Some of the most well-known angels are Michael, the head of God’s armies (Daniel 10:13), Gabriel, the messenger (Luke 1:19), and Lucifer, the perfectly created cherub who fell from Grace due to his ego (Isaiah 14:12).
